On July 19, Professor Yuk Lam Lo, President of the HKBMIA, along with Vice Presidents Dr. William Choi and Dr. Augustine Chow, Executive Director Wayne Tan, Secretary-General Michael Cheng, and Chief Operating Officer Ruby Liao, led a delegation of nearly 40 representatives from the Hong Kong biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry to visit and exchange ideas in the Pingshan District of Shenzhen. The purpose of the visit was to understand and explore the development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Pingshan and to have deep discussions on promoting pragmatic cooperation between Pingshan and Hong Kong. Mr. Jun Yang, the secretary of the Pingshan District Committee in Shenzhen, and directors of related departments, such as the Science and Innovation Bureau of Pingshan District, Shenzhen, received the delegation and held a workshop to exchange ideas.
During the workshop, Mr. Ming Huang, Director of the Shenzhen Pingshan District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, introduced the main situation of Pingshan, including its location advantages, industry foundation, entrepreneurship, transportation, and other related information, and stated that the current policies and business environment are very suitable for the Hong Kong biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry to land and develop in Pingshan.
Prof. Lo stated at the workshop that the entrepreneurs and scientists participating in the delegation all share the same goal: to comprehend and investigate Pingshan in an effort to further implement development and cooperation opportunities in Pingshan. Prof. Lo also stated that since the HKBMIA's inception in 2017, the association has consistently explored and worked to promote the development of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, introducing high-quality biopharmaceutical resources from overseas to Hong Kong and the mainland. With the assistance of senior advisers such as KPMG Hong Kong (SAR), China Ltd., Eagle IP Ltd., and other consultants, the association has also established an ecological circle of services for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, which has been a vital support for many scientific research projects and enterprises to sustain their development. Prof. Lo aims to collaborate with these advisors to promote the growth of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and establish a sustainable cycle of industry growth support.
In addition, Prof. Lo and Secretary Jun Yang reached a consensus at the workshop, hoping to explore more possibilities for dialogue and cooperation between relevant departments of Pingshan and the Hong Kong government on the basis of consolidating civil cooperation in the biotechnology industry between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and jointly promoting the high-quality development of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
